Ingredients
This recipe really has very simple ingredients. Lean ground turkey, white beans, finely chopped onions, red pepper, green chilis, and minced garlic.
What really makes this chili special is the spices, only a few. Cumin, oregano, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, and cloves.
These flavors meld together after a short simmer and leave you wanting more.
Instructions
Step 1. Start by chopping onions and peppers. Set aside.
Step 2. Add olive oil to a stockpot and heat over medium heat. Add ground turkey when the oil is hot. Mix spices and sprinkle half over the turkey. Cook turkey for 5-7 minutes. Do not disturb and allow the turkey to brown. Use a spatula to turn the turkey. Gently turn the turkey to place the uncooked part of the turkey on the heat. Don't disturb and allow the meat to brown. Add the onions, and peppers and cook for 2-3 minutes. Stir in garlic and green chilies. Break up turkey into bite-sized pieces
Step 3. Add broth and stir. Add beans and stir.
Step 4. Bring chili to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer over low heat for 10 minutes until heated through.
Step 5. Garnish with shaved Parmesan cheese, chopped green onion, or a dollop of Greek yogurt.
Easy Substitutions
Turkey: I have made this with ground chicken and it is delicious.
Beans: I used Cannelieli beans, but White Northern beans will work. You could also substitute black beans or kidney beans.
Red Pepper: I love the flavor that fresh peppers add. Any color will work.
Green Chilies: I used mild, but if you want more heat, add a moderate or hot variety.
Broth: I used chicken broth, but a vegetable broth would add extra flavor.
What to Serve with Turkey Chili
Serve this flavorful soup with a leafy green salad, chopped vegetables, and Homemade Ranch Dressing. Add a slice of garlic bread to finish your meal.
