Easy Homemade Ranch Dressing is made with simple ingredients that blend for a delicious creamy dressing that accents your salad or cut vegetables.
Ranch dressing is my favorite salad dressing. But, in traditional recipes, it is made with buttermilk and high-fat ingredients. I developed this recipe so that I can still enjoy that ranch flavor, but with lower fat and calories.
Ingredients in Homemade Ranch Dressing
I love making my own homemade salad dressings. Knowing the ingredients in the dish is comforting as well as having a dressing with a fresh taste is worth the few minutes of effort.
This ranch dressing is made with a base of Greek yogurt and avocado mayonnaise. To add less fat, I use skim milk to thin the yogurt and mayonnaise and end with a pourable dressing.
To add a tangy bite, I include white wine vinegar and lemon juice. It doesn't take much to brighten the flavor of the dressing. Worcestershire sauce adds salt and depth to the taste.
But, spices are what blend to accent the taste of your salad or vegetables. This recipe calls for dried dill, dried chives, onion powder, and minced garlic. Salt and cayenne pepper enhance the flavor.
How to Prepare Homemade Ranch Dressing
Simple preparation is what makes this dressing an easy recipe. I love to mix dressings in my food chopper. #ad
It is a small 3 1/2 cup processor that is just the right size for small jobs. You simply depress the handle with your thumb to chop or puree. Clean up in the dishwasher and doesn't take up much space in the cabinet.
Start by adding the yogurt and mayonnaise to the bowl of the chopper. Then sprinkle in the spices, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, and vinegar. Pulse the chopper several times to mix the ingredients.
Drizzle in milk until you reach the desired consistency. More for a pourable dressing and less if you are using as a dip for chopped vegetables.
Place in a covered dish and refridgerate until chilled. Thirty to 60 minutes is enough time. This lets the spice flavors meld and develop in the dressing.
Give the dressing a stir before serving.
This recipe makes one cup or dressing and 2 tablespoons is a serving.
How to Store Salad Dressing
This homemade dressing will keep in the refrigerator for 5-7 days. Since it doesn't include extra preservatives, you will want to discard the dressing after this time.
What to Serve with Homemade Ranch Dressing
Ranch dressing is perfect with a leafy green salad, with chopped vegetables, tomato, and cheese. Add dried cherries, chopped apples, grapes, or other fruit for a little sweetness. To make a meal, add sliced turkey, cheese, and chickpeas to up the protein and make it a filling.
This recipe also works as a dip by adjusting the amount of milk used to thin the dressing.
Try it drizzled on a hot baked potato instead of butter. Yum.
