Get Motivated to Start Losing Weight
If you follow the steps, you will lose weight. I’ve been there, and I think many others in the world feel the same way. The hopeful feeling that you can actually lose weight.
I know for a fact by staying on this program that I have lost weight. It is an unbelievable feeling that you can take control back, just by following steps and have the results that others only talk about.
It is difficult. I won’t lie however the results are the motivating factor and getting help from my wife and family helps too.
But, you, me anyone who has ever been overweight knows that the weight just didn't happen overnight.
That’s right. I was a skinny kid in high school, in fact, when I graduated high school I only weighed 118 pounds. That was oh, about 30 years ago.
Once I graduated, I was on a mission to gain weight. I became a person who lifted weights, ran several miles each day, and ate all I wanted. Within 3 years I was 175 pounds and made of muscle. At that point, I was in my early twenties until I was 48 years of age, married with kids.
Life just gets in the way of the things you want to do or need to do.
You begin to not do those things you did at a much younger age, but I was still in semi-shape not so much lifting weights but occasional running, calisthenics, lots of push-ups, boot camps on and off, then my wife and I, had twins and all craziness broke loose.
Working out wasn’t an option between work and family responsibilities.
Next thing you know. You eat more than you should, and you start down that road where you begin to gain more pounds and years later you realize you’re 40 or 50 pounds heavier. Suddenly you realize it time to do something about it.
Unfortunately, as you get older it becomes a lot harder to lose weight. So you start looking for different options, and here we are.
So I found out about this new eating program, the keto diet. I found that if I just follow the keto diet rules. I can get this excess weight off in a fairly short period of time.
Keto Diet Rules
The big restriction with the keto diet is carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are limited to 5% of daily calories or about 20-25 net carbohydrates per day.
Protein is limited to 20% of daily calories. Fatty cuts of meat, butter, whipping cream, olive oils, and coconut oils are all allowed and encouraged on the keto diet.
Fats are the icing on the cake. Adding fat to your meals allows the keto diet to be satisfying and filling. I’m not saying you will never be hungry, but your meals will be tasty.
Fats are allowed up to 75% of daily calories. Yes, that’s right. You can eat 75% of your daily calories as fat and still lose weight on the keto diet.
Kinda crazy to think about, isn’t it? Especially when we have all been trained to eliminate fat from our diets.

I have a couple of posts that give you steps to prepare for starting the keto diet. To learn more about the food to eat on the keto diet read my post on Keto Diet Foods.

Adding Exercise to the Keto Diet
But of course, the keto diet will get you started on your weight loss journey. The keto diet sets the stage for consistent weight loss, but if you want weight loss to continue at a good rate, and help breakthrough any stalls, you will need to add in some exercise to keep your metabolism humming.
I add in exercises like HIIT routines to my daily walk. In the past, I did more running, but my knees get sore. So I find that I get just as much benefit from a walk, especially with HIIT workouts added in. My post on Five Simple HIIT Workouts Burns Fat in 15 Minutes.
Sometimes when you start working out, you are sore in the beginning.
Another thing that has helped my sore joints is the Great Lakes Gelatin, 2 Collagen Hydrolysate 16-Ounce Cans and Measuring Spoons Combo Pack. I found that drinking Great Lakes Hydrolyzed Collagen daily helps support my knee health. When I add the collagen powder to a daily drink my joints feel better and I am able to get more benefit out of my daily exercise routine.
Also adding inserts into my running shoes helps with joint pain and foot, ankle and knee alignment. I use the Vionic Full-Length Active Orthotic – Athletic Shoe Insert - MD8.

While I am walking I can use hand weights such as GYMENIST Set of 2 Hand Shaped Neoprene Exercise Workout Jogging Walking Cardio Dumbbells Pair (5-LB Blue) to help increase my heart rate and help tone my stomach and arms faster. You see with HIIT workouts you want to raise and lower your heart rate. This keeps your body burning fat even when you're not working out. Do you understand?
This makes a lot of sense.
For situps and other calisthenics, I like using my yoga mat such as the Gaiam Yoga Mat Premium Print Reversible Extra Thick Non-Slip Exercise & Fitness Mat for All Types of Yoga, Pilates & Floor Exercises, Royal Bouquet, 6mm. It makes it more comfortable.
If you are looking for an exercise to help you lose weight, check out the HIIT Routine that I picked up at Bootcamp.
Check out my post on HIIT Boot Camp Training Burns Fat. What I suggest may seem crazy, but this is what a week at my boot camp was like.
Now that winter is upon us I am thinking about getting a new treadmill or a stair-step machine. I see a lot of options on Amazon. With these new machines, I think they will be useful all year round. But when it is colder weather we tend to not work out and that is a no-no if you want to keep your weight loss on track. In order for this program to be effective, I must have extra tools to make it work.

Two of the most important things about the keto diet is staying in ketosis and staying motivated on the diet. For tips on staying motivated on the keto diet, check out my post on Hubby Starts the Keto Diet - 3 Steps to Stay Motivated.
You have to be realistic, while we all want to be perfect and stay in ketosis all the time, it just may not work out or be practical.
For the first month, I started the keto diet, I strictly followed the keto diet. Then I had a training class for work. I could not leave and didn’t prepare my food so I ate the meals included in the training. Some of this food that I ate knocked me out of ketosis.
Whenever this happens and believe me it happens, I have to return to the diet and if I am strict, I am generally back in ketosis within a couple of days. What’s important is getting back on track fast!.
For signs to watch for to know you are in ketosis, read my post on Ketosis, Keto On, Burn Fat and Lose Weight Fast.
This is just my take on the keto diet. I am sure you also have your own story of how the weight just happens. For example, if you’re not paying attention and it just creeps up on you. It’s good to know we have an exceptional option to lose the weight, for me, it’s the Keto Diet.
