Stovetop Lasagna

One-dish lasagna made in a skillet. Tender noodles, garlic over sausage flavored ground beef. Topped with ricotta cheese, and shredded mozarella cheese.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces ground turkey
  • 1 tbsp olive oil extra virgin
  • 1/2 cup onion chopped
  • 4 tsp garlic minced
  • 1 tsp parsley dried
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp Caraway seed or fennel seed25
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp cayene pepper
  • 8 lasagna noodles
  • 25 ounces pasta sauce
  • 15 ounces tomatoes petite diced
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup Ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup Mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tbsp basil sh, chopped

Instructions

  • Heat EVOO in skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook for 3-5 minutes. Add minced garlic. Stir and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  • Add ground turkey to skillet with onions. Use spatula to press turkey into a flat layer in bottom of skillet. Sprinkle turkey with half the spice mix. Let turkey cook undisturbed for 5-7 minutes. Use spatula to turn turkey. Sprinkle with remaining spice mix. Allow to cook over medium low heat for 5-7 minutes and until browned. Use the spatula to break up into bite-sized pieces.
  • Place lasagna noodles over bottom of pan over turkey. Spread evenly. Break up one to two noodles to place at edges of skillet.
  • Pour pasta sauce, undrained tomatoes, and water over noodles. Cover and allow to simmer over low heat for 20 minutes. Check for noodle tenderness, add an additional 1/2 cup of water as needed. Recover and continue to simmer for up to 10 minutes as needed.
  • Spoon heaping tablespoons of Ricotta cheese onto the pasta sauce. Spread evenly. Sprinkle with Mozzarella cheese. Cover and heat for an additional 5 minutes to melt cheese.
  • Heat oven on broil. Uncover skillet and place on top rack of oven. Broil for 5 minutes until cheese is melted and starts to brown. Remove from oven, sprinkle with fresh, chopped basil. Make portions around dallops of Ricotta cheese.
